The South of Perth Match Cup is the qualifier to the 'World Match Racing Tour Fremantle' and is the first event to showcase the high performance M32 Catamarans in Australia. Four teams will qualify from this event will qualify to compete 2–7 March off Bathers Beach, Fremantle.
The World Match Racing Tour will hold the season opener of the 2016 World Match Racing Championship which is being held at Bathers Beach, Fremantle from 2–7 March. This event has a prize purse of USD 200,000 with the winner of the Championship winning, for the first time in the Tour's history, USD$1,000 000.
2016 will be the 17th consecutive season for the World Match Racing Tour making it the longest running global professional series in the sport of sailing.
1987 saw Fremantle host the America's Cup Event. Now almost 30 years later Fremantle will play host once again to 20 of the best match racing sailors in the world racing in the tight confines of Bathers Beach which offers a natural amphitheatre for spectators. The M32 catamarans will be showcased for the first time in Australian waters with high octane multi hull racing.
These qualifying teams will compete amongst the world's best sailors.
